LUXE:
You must have had very brave clients, as you’ve really taken the ceiling to glamorous new heights.
RIBEK:
The owners love to take risks and were willing to think outside the box with me. I brought a sample of the wallcovering to my initial presentation with a photo of a silver lacquered ceiling. I originally had the window treatment fabric planned out to be the only pop of blue, but during the meeting, we came up with the concept of painting the ceiling the same blue as the drapery fabric.
LUXE:
What made you go with this type of pattern for the wainscoting?
RIBEK:
We wanted unique and interesting paneling for the walls. So, I researched midcentury modern, Florida-style homes, which have a lot of geometric patterns in their architecture. After driving down Ocean Boulevard in Palm Beach, I was so inspired by the patterned balconies found on many of the older homes that I sketched out several designs based on that inspiration until we finally all agreed on this pattern.
LUXE:
Why the switch from white to yellow in the dining chairs?
RIBEK:
I love to use bold tones and patterns, but since there wasn’t much fabric and the clients didn’t want upholstered chairs, I needed to find a way to bring in more color, and these yellow chairs were the perfect solution. I also wanted to play with the scale of the room since everything in this space is tall, and the low-back chairs provided a nice balance while not taking away from the drama of the ceiling.
