"Bye Bye" White Kitchens?

Ahhhhh the White Kitchen!!

The white kitchen has been going strong for many years now and is the ultimate "classic".  I remember when the movie "Somethings Gotta Give" came out in 2003 and changed kitchen design forever. While designing in NY during that time, every client referred to this kitchen as their inspiration.

The shaker door style with hinges exposed, became the craze. Vein-y granite countertops were replaced with soapstone and honed black granite countertops. Subway tiles took over in the kitchen and in the bathrooms. Of course we can't forget the red knob Wolf range, it was a must have. In the past few years we have seen the countertop go from black to white, but the white cabinets and subway tile have held strong.

Over the past few years we started to see cabinetry moving more towards the greys, taupe's, blacks and blues. Having done white kitchens for the past 13 years I welcome the change.

Designers are vamping up subway tiles by using dark grout colors creating a nice contrast. We have also seen patterns created like herringbone and zig zag using subway tiles. Stacking 6"x6" tiles in a subway pattern is also a great look.

Brass hardware is back and I am loving it! It reminds me of a piece of jewelry that bring a bit elegance to the space.

The Shaker style door is still a front runner. We like to play with the thickness of the frame and use some beaded details to change it up, but raised paneled door are far and few between!

Are you ready to move away from white in 2016?
